Perfect remote location for exploring Uists and Barra by car - Rating 5/5
We found the Orasay after frustratingly rejecting all other options from booking sites: found this on Hebrides Tourist Board looking for visiting places. Family run boutique with superb food and idyllic location on Lochcarnan, just off the main north-south skeletal road through the Uists at the perfect midway point. Isobel and Alan welcome you like family.Good range of room sizes to suit family and budge considerations.

Like You Read About in Books - Rating 5/5
The Orasay has a beautiful location and the building itself is in good condition and traditional. The lounge is cozy, the view from the dining room is stunning, our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. All the more impressive considering the staff of this hotel is not large. Breakfast was included in room price and was excellent and generous. Everyone was friendly and hospitable. If I came again, I'd want to stay longer. Would definitely be good for a weekend away as a couple, but they were lovely to two walkers just passing through.

Lovely Hosts andA Great Place To Stay - Rating 5/5
We spent our last night in the Hebrides at The Orasay Inn & wished we could have stayed longer! Alan & Isobel were the ultimate hosts ensuring we had everything we needed during our stay. Our room was comfortable and warm and quiet. We thought the food choices were brilliant with lots of different things on offer. We both had the scallop and prawn skewers for starters and they were delicious. In fact we would say they were the best scallops we have ever tasted. My husband had fish and chips which was lovely and I had chicken curry with rice and chips which I thoroughly enjoyed. We were too full to have a dessert! Our breakfast was also excellent. I had smoked haddock withpoached eggs and it was superb. My husband had a full Scottish breakfast which was the best he has ever had too. All in all the Orasay Inn offered the best food we had during our one week stay in the Hebrides and Alan & Isobel are such a lovely couple they really make you feel at home. The Inn has great views and if the weather had been better we would have been able to sit outside on the spacious decked area. We would highly recommend this property and would definitely stay here again.

Perfect base for exploring the Uists and Benbecula - Rating 5/5
I only stayed the one night but wish it had been longer. My single room was well appointed and the bed very comfy. Alan and Isobel were very welcoming hosts, and all the hype around the food is true - the monkfish scampi was magnificent! I loved the breakfast touches of individual reusable pots of yogurt and fresh fruit, and individual milk and juice bottles, and the full cooked was exceptional (I was defeated!). I would happily stay again at this perfect location.

Orasay Inn is a beautiful place to stay on South Uist. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I had the best nights sleep there. We had dinner at Orasay Inn and we were not disappointed. Great menu, with a fantastic selection of food. Everything tasted so amazing. I went to bed dreaming of breakfast. When combined with the warmest, friendliest hosts, Orasay Inn will stay with you for a very long time.

Accommodated in a large spacious bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Beautiful view from the bright dining room. Alan & Isabel were friendly and attentive proprietors. Isabel is a remarkably good cook and the choices of dishes for breakfast and dinner were amazing and plentiful. "Freshly squeezed" orange juice, delicious fresh fruit and yoghurt and a great variety of choice for your cooked breakfast, certainly set us up for the day. As there are not many restaurants to choose from, we would certainly recommend booking "Orasay Inn" well in advance for D, B & B. We hope to return one day!

Orasay the oasis - Rating 5/5
A wonderful establishment nestling in the rugged grandeur in the northern part of South Uist. A warm welcome was offered by the owner Isobel who multi tasked later in the day as chef extraordinaire. The room was spacious with a double door leading out to a balcony with a view down the loch. Dinner was taken on two nights with a menu offering an extensive choice. Alan undertook the duty not only as co-owner but also bar tender par excellence and maitre d’ and waiter. His knowledge of the islands was invaluable to allow an enjoyable day exploring the island. The bed allowed a deep and peaceful sleep. On the morning that we left although the beautiful weather had turned into a squally bourach it didn’t dampen the hospitality offered on our departure. We left this wonderful establishment wishing that we could have stayed longer and enjoyed even more of Isobel’s dinner menu and tasty breakfasts and Alan’s bonhomie. Well worth a return visit.

Breakfast is included. A full menu is available at supper and there is a full bar. Considering food is far between and the quality of the cuisine, have dinner here. Very enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Isobel and Alan. We had a comfy double room with an oak floor and furniture - beautifully decorated and with a balcony looking onto the loch. The evening meals were extremely generous and well-cooked - choices of fresh local seafood and meat-eaters also well catered for.All the usual breakfast items were available- fresh fruit, cereal, breads, as well as hearty portions of a range of cooked breakfasts, well prepared and tasty. Our hosts were kind and helpful with a fund of local knowledge which I found particularly interesting. They did everything to make our stay comfortable and when we left Alan took the trouble to post an item which we had forgotten to our next port of call which he had remembered. Very kind and considerate of him indeed...We both heartily recommend the Orasay Inn and will definitely revisit on our next trip.

Our room was small but was billed as a small double so we knew what to expect. It had everything we needed and we were able to enjoy the comfy sofas in the lounge. The view from the dining room was excellent, but the best thing about the Orasay Inn is the food.My husband had the seafood platter (which was billed as a starter) as his main course and it was plenty although he left room to share my apple crumble and custard (which was £4 and loads for 2 people). There are very reasonable items on the main menu if you are on a budget, but if you can push the boat out a bit and have the fresh seafood it's well worth the extra and all prepared and cooked by the lady owner.Would we stay again and recommend this place - definitely!

The food was excellent and the service friendly and helpful. Our room was a bit small and felt in need of some tlc, as did the small bathroom. The shower leaked as as a result the shower head had to be left ohe floor of the shower rather than secured in its normal osition on the wall. Overall though, the plusses definitely outweighed the minuses

Yes brilliant, we arrived after a day ofrain across miles of peat bog and had our wet clothes and boots dried. It is one of only two places you can have an evening meal on this part of Hebridean Way (it's very close). If you judge a place by it's breakfast this was about the best I've ever had, choice of both smoked haddock and kippers and - of the latter - would you like one or two?!

Comfortable hotel. Rooms not huge but ok, shower lovely and hot which was what I needed after a day cycling. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant good, (nice views), particularly if you eat fish (which I don’t, but it looked good). Very nice breakfast.Possibly expensive for the size and decor of room which is why I have given only three stars. Food deserves four stars.
Response
We thank you for taking the time to provide a review and we are happy that, on the whole, you seem to have enjoyed your stay. However we do have to respond to your comments on the room. This was, as described, as small (not tiny). You were charged £89 for single occupancy (double is £10 more). Of that amount we are required to pay almost £15 to HMRC for VAT. At the time of your reservation 2 single rooms were available at a cost of £75 (£62.50 ex VAT). A generous breakfast is included in our rates. The room you occupied was completely redecorated last year and new furniture installed. We trust that you will appreciate our response and not think us over sensitive.

One night Dinner bed and breakfast... - Rating 3/5
Having been before our expectations were very high. Unfortunately, too high, as it wasn't nearly as good as the last time. The welcome was as expected and the accommodation was also as before and very adequate. The dinner however was not up to previous visits which was disappointing because it was so, so good before. Maybe it was a bad night but the seafood broth was not as before (it was brilliant last time) and the shellfish wasn't properly cleaned and there were bits of shells throughout my main course. It was fine but just not up to the 5 star standard of previous visits.

Good Highland hospitality extended to cooking the cockles and mussels we'd picked from local beach and letting us take their dog for a walk on the beautiful land behind the house! A real home from home experience. Also wonderful food with generous helpings. Spacious rooms. Highly recommended.

Happy to be held up by a storm, on isle of south Uist! - Rating 5/5
We were prebooked for one nights stay at the Orsay Inn, on our tour from north to south, at the outer Hebrides, when a storm cancelled all ferrylines around the islands. So the extroadinary kind owners, managed to fixe another nights stay. They were absolute helpfull when we had to rebook new ferry- and flighttickets, when we occupied their telephonelines for hours. And at the top of this; The kitchen held absolute star-class, and is well worth a travel to south Uist, only for that reason. Thanks for your seviceminds and kindness, so we will add a special memory of the Orsay Inn, to our Scotland-tour.Stig and Birgitta from Sweden

We had a lovely two night stay at Orasay. The owners are very welcoming and friendly, there is a nice atmosphere in the place. The food is excellent, seafood a speciality, but all good including breakfasts. My husband's seafood platter was amazing. Certainly worth a return visit and weather was great so Uist was at it's best.Katherine & Iain Mackay

We were pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem off the beaten track. Well positioned for a visit to this lovely area. An amazing breakfast including the biggest kippers I've ever seen. Dinner is a la carte with added specials, all lovingly prepared by the owner Isobel. Both Alan and Isobel are welcoming and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay . The rooms are of a very high standard.

A cosy inn in a scenic location - Rating 4/5
Comfortable rooms, cosy atmosphere, great breakfasts and delicious dinners from an extensive menu of local produce. We were disappointed that having received an email confirming our 4 night booking to get a phone call to advise that the Inn had double booked and we could only stay for 2 nights. By that stage we had gone ahead and booked ferries to tie in with our confirmed booking.

Friendly warm welcome - Rating 5/5
This hotel is like home from home and I was made to feel really welcome by the owners, Isobel and Alan. Whilst the rooms were on the small side especially if you were a couple in the double room but as I had sole occupancy it was fine and the decor is a little dated. However on the plus side there was no need to sit in our room in the evening as there is a cosy lounge to chill in both before and after your evening meal. There is a pretty extensive menu especially considering as all the cooking is done by Isobel and some of the food was outstanding, not fine dining but mostly what sort of fair you would have at home well apart from the sea food platter perhaps. Others have commented that they thought it was expensive but I would say that £11 for haddock and chips wasn't out the way. Thee were more pricy things on the menu depending on you budget. The breakfast was one of the best I have had in hotels around the world with a fabulous selection of fresh fruit as well as pretty much everything you could ask for for a hearty Scottish breakfast. The owners having been there for a good few years obviously know the area and certainly gave me some advice on the local hills as if time allowed and I finished work early wanted to climb being mhor which I did one evening and it's a cracking wee hill.I would definitely stay here again if I'm ever working in the area again and would stay if travelling in south Uist on my own violation.

Enjoyable 3 nights stay in room 3 with the balcony overlooking the sea, but due to poor weather for 2 days, unable to use the balcony!Lovely views when the weather cleared and the sun came out!Large comfortable bed, good sized bedroom andbathroom.Lounge had comfortable settees and dining room looked out over the sea.Food generally excellent but one or 2 items of veg were overcooked. We would suggest a few improvements: Squeaky bedroom floor in our room and adjacent room 4 caused we think by the wood flooring.Bathroom designed as wet room but drain unable to cope with shower on High as water spread across floor to WC and had to be mopped up with towel.A number of piles of dog poo in car park were disappointing and not what we would expect.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Orasay and found it an excellent base to explore the Islands round and about. Our room was terrific, with a beautiful, peaceful view from the French windows and balcony - perfect for a glass of wine when the sun shone. The highlight of The Orasay has to be the splendid food served in their restaurant. We were so impressed with the standard of the cuisine that we booked every night of our stay and had some excellent fish dishes amongst other things. The breakfasts were of the same high standard, with lots of variety and always a wonderful selection of fresh fruit. The haddock poached in milk was particularly tasty. We would not hesitate to book at The Orasay again if we are ever in that part of Scotland again.

Spent a most comfortable night at the Orasay Inn.Food was absolutely amazing, plenty of seating in guest lounge, and comfortable bed with TV.Only down side would be that the bedroom was so small that the tiny shower room required a concertina door (room 1).

Good value hotel with a very good dining room. As the guide books say it the latter that makes this place: very fresh 'catch of the day' food cooked simply but very well. Also, a good range of wines are available.

Just the Job - Rating 4/5
Our party was treated with great friendliness and looked after very well. The rooms were very comfortable and the views from the East end rooms with the doors opening on to decking were superb.A word of warning. The ferry from Oban to Loch Boisdale is not scheduled every day of the week and may be cancelled by bad weather.Other ferries are available.Travel Insurance should be considered.
